Playing video games may be a fun pastime. Addiction to video games, however, can result in a number of problems. Video games have adverse consequences on our minds, bodies, relationships, work performance, and more.

It's crucial to keep in mind that video games aren't always bad. The majority of video games' detrimental consequences are caused by overuse and addiction. Ten detrimental impacts of video games are listed below:

1 Unheard Dopamine dependence

2. decreased motivation

3.Alexithymia and restraint of emotion

4.Risks to one's health, including repetitive stress injuries.

5.Mental illness.

6.Relationship problems

7.Social alienation.

8.being exposed to negative gaming situations.

9.poor performance in the classroom or at work

10.Abstinence and being trapped in life.

Let's examine each of these impacts in further depth and consider how to counteract the detrimental effects.

1. UNHEARD DOPAMINE DEPENDENCE

Video games are enjoyable in part because of your brain's reward network. Dopamine is a chemical that your brain releases that controls how enjoyable video games seem to you. You experience joy when the nucleus accumbens, your brain's pleasure centre, is active with dopamine.

When you play video games, your brain continuously releases dopamine in sporadic random bursts. The nucleus accumbens needs even more dopamine release for gaming to seem enjoyable since your brain becomes accustomed to this consistent flow of dopamine over time. That hinders you from appreciating anything that isn't a video game's level of stimulation.

Your mind will draw you to other sorts of stimulation, such as watching YouTube videos or scrolling through social media, even if you attempt to stop playing video games. Simple tasks won't look at all intriguing, and you won't be inspired to perform anything uninteresting. Dopamine addiction is at its worst at that point. This is a serious risk if you allow your gaming habit to spiral out of hand.

2. DECREASED MOTIVATION

The victory circuit is more difficult to map onto the brain than the nucleus accumbens. It is just a fundamental aspect of human psychology and cognition that does not localise to any one region of the brain.

When we overcome a hurdle, the victory circuit makes us feel wonderful. A compelling narrative about forging ahead into the unknown, discovering something worthwhile, solving a challenge, and then returning it to society may be found in evolutionary biology. We appreciate those who overcome obstacles, and this has moulded social psychology.

This circuit has been broken using video games. All the psychological benefits that we frequently look for in the actual world have been made possible by this discovery. The things we seek in reality and in video games are frequently extremely similar. We seek thrills, exploits, companionship, success, and prestige. With minimal effort on our part, games have discovered a method to feed that to us. Because of this, when someone can only engage the victory circuit with video games, it suffers.

3.ALEXITHYMINE AND RESTRAINT OF EMOTION.

When we experience fear, worry, humiliation, or other negative feelings, the amygdala is triggered. The amygdala is the part of the brain that regulates these unpleasant emotions. Due to its connection to the hippocampus, the part of the brain that controls learning, it also has a significant impact on the circuitry of learning.

However, fMRI research has shown that when we begin playing video games, our amygdala calms down since it is active. Two outcomes come from this:

Alexithymia is a disorder that results from persistently repressing negative feelings. When someone has difficulty identifying their internal emotional state, they are said to be alexithymic. Alexithymic individuals have trouble identifying their emotions. That does not imply that their behaviour is unaffected by their feelings, though.

Our learning circuitry is fundamentally composed of the amygdala. We retain the memories of painful events, and we draw lessons from them. However, because their amygdala does not form connections with their hippocampus as easily, people find it difficult to stop playing video games. When they do poorly at job or at school, they do not learn from their terrible mistakes. Their ability to learn is undermined, making it hard for children to stop playing video games.

4. RISKS TO ONE'S HEALTH, INCLUDING RELETIVE STRESS, INJURIES.

In and of itself, playing video games is not harmful. It may, however, swiftly start to be harmful to one's physical health if done for extended periods of time. Here are a few health problems that might develop as a result of video game addiction.

Injury from Repeated Stress

Gamers frequently suffer from repetitive stress injuries (RSIs). Playing video games necessitates laborious, repetitive activity on the hands and wrists, often for long periods of time. Injury and inflammation may result from these movements. The following are RSIs that can result from gaming:

De Quervain's Tenosynovitis is the medical term for the ailment known as gamer's thumb. It is a disorder where the tendons that move our thumb become inflamed, resulting in discomfort and restricted motion.

The ailment known as trigger finger, sometimes referred to as stenosing tenosynovitis, causes a finger to become stuck in a bent posture. It may flex or straighten with a snap, much like pulling or releasing a trigger, thus the name.

Another RSI that can result from playing video games too much is tennis elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis). The elbow tendons get overworked in this painful disease, which is typically brought on by repeated wrist and arm motion.

Another RSI that can result from excessive gaming is carpal tunnel syndrome.Numbness, tingling, or hand weakness are its typical symptoms. It happens as a result of pressure on the median nerve. Through the carpal tunnel, a section of your wrist, this nerve travels from your forearm into your hand.

5.MENTAL ILLNESS.

Playing video games does not always result in mental health issues. The chance of developing a video game addiction, however, increases if you already have depression, anxiety, or another mental disorder. This is a result of how video games impact your brain.

In a research on how gaming affects mental health, it was shown that unhealthy gaming behaviours are associated with poor coping mechanisms, unpleasant emotions, low self-esteem, a tendency for isolation, and low academic achievement.

While improved concentration is one of the advantages of gaming, excessive gaming may have the opposite effect. A bidirectional connection between playing video games and attention deficit problems was discovered in a research conducted on 3000 children and adolescents from 12 different schools in Singapore. It is possible that youngsters who already exhibit symptoms of attention deficit disorders might be more drawn to video games owing to the diversity of experiences they may offer, even though excessive gaming may be a factor in a lack of long-term focus capacity.

6. RELATIONSHIPS PROMBLEM

Video game players and their families frequently experience relationship problems as a result of excessive game playing. When a person becomes overly dependent on video games, they begin to overlook other aspects of their existence. Relationships with family, friends, and other loved ones that are healthy and helpful are the first things to disappear.

Relationships need effort to keep up. A neglected one will eventually wither and die, much like a neglected plant. In order to develop or even sustain, relationships require ongoing care.

Nevertheless, when a person spends the most of their day playing video games, there is hardly any time left over to spend with friends and family or seek romantic relationships.

Togetherness may be strengthened by playing video games in moderation with friends and family. However, protracted gaming frequently leads to loneliness. Keep an eye on your connections to see if they are heading in a direction you do not want them to be going in as a result, since it is far more crucial.

7. SOCIAL ALIENATION.

In the gaming world, social isolation is a significant issue. This is the one that receives the most attention among the drawbacks of video gaming. Even though we frequently play multiplayer games, we seldom ever interact with the other players. Genuine human connection is easier to find in certain places than others. These, however, are the exception. Your mental health might suffer greatly if you are isolated. Humans were not created by evolution to be lonely entities. We flourish in groups where we can help one another.

According to a 2009 Iranian research on second-graders, those who are hooked to video games typically have weaker social skills than those who are not. Social contact is a talent, and it will decline if you spend the most of your time playing video games alone in your room, away from other people. Social anxiety might result from it, which exacerbates the issue.

8. BEING EXPOSED TO NEGATIVE GAMING SITUATION.

Men are only permitted to exhibit one unfavourable emotion in our culture, which is rage. If they also display other unfavourable feelings, like guilt or fear, they are viewed as being too sensitive or weak. That makes males more prone to alexithymia, especially if they have a video game addiction.

As of 2019, statistics on the gender distribution of internet users show that there are around 54% men and 46% women. The majority of users on some platforms, like Twitch, are men. There are a large number of people that consider anger to be the sole acceptable emotion in the gaming world. That these communities are so poisonous is hardly surprising.

Different gaming communities have different harmful levels. That could be because certain games are more competitive than others, and competition does not always bring out the best in us.

9. POOR PERFORMANCE AT CLASSROOM OR AT WORK.

Your ability to succeed in school and at work is likely to diminish if you have a gaming addiction. It might be difficult for those who play video games a lot to focus on their work or their studies. When your performance in these areas fails, it is rather typical to turn to video games. When life's duties become too much to bear, playing video games becomes an escape.

Independent of their physical activity, age, gender, and socioeconomic background, a cross-sectional and longitudinal research of teenagers in secondary school found a negative link between screen use and academic success one year later. There may be a connection between increasing gaming and subpar academic achievement.

You may continue to do well at work or school while maintaining a positive gaming habit. However, because of how games alter your brain, it is far simpler to lose oneself there than it is to attempt to deal with challenges in the real world. For instance, a lot of young people get into gaming because they discover a group of people that don't criticise them for their socioeconomic status or outward looks. They start to get attached to this community and lose interest in what they do in school, which lowers their grades.

10. ABSTINENCE AND BEING TRAPPED IN LIFE.

We are aware that playing video games may be a safe haven for individuals to go to when they feel unprepared to handle the challenges in their lives. But occasionally, this may be an issue. If playing video games keeps you from figuring out how to handle your problems, it is a problem.

There's a danger that you're not confronting your life's difficulties head-on if you spend ten hours a day playing video games. It is one of the greatest methods to proceed, despite the fact that doing so might be extremely uncomfortable. You don't need to stop playing video games. By taking back control of your life one step at a time, you may maintain a balanced state of affairs.

CONCLUSION

Video games is not a devil for human being and being strongly addiction can destroy your life.

I can suggest you to meditate everyday to control your mind.

I will not suggest any doctor or others people to overcome this addiction.

The only thing which can control our mind and our body is MEDITATION.
